Managing Absence - A Practical Guide

Managing Absence - A Practical Guide

Long term absence can be damaging and disruptive. One of the most frequent issues we are asked to advise on is that of managing absence, whether repeated short term absences or (more often) long term absence.  This session will consider what legal obligations exist in this area and provide some real practical guidance to help employers handle these difficult cases, with a focus on real life examples and case studies.  We will cover:

o    A brief reminder of the legal principles

o    Medical evidence and consulting with the employee

o    Disability and reasonable adjustments

o    Problem cases:

    The un-cooperative employee

The employee who is too stressed to speak to you

    Unhelpful medical advice

    Conflicting medical advice

Adjustments that will be expensive and/or disruptive

The employee who always recovers just in time to avoid dismissal

Employees going on holiday and having fun while too sick to work

Invaluable guidance on how to minimise the pain and maximise the return for your organisation.

Please find attached full details of our employment team’s new lunchtime seminar programme.

Each seminar is free of charge and will take place in our Edinburgh office.
